Why do you think some on here prefer to not have email contact?

Sometimes I wish to offer a thought on an interesting question but it gets resolved quickly. Sometimes I have worked on an answer for a good while and am too late to get it in and I would send it by email if I could.

Why do you think some on here prefer to not have email contact?
Good point canron I do not know why some people do not let us add them as contacts or send them emails I think it is a beautiful thing that we can share ideas, thoughts and answers from the people on here who have answered my questions or vice/versa theirs....So many great minds have emailed me a futher thought to my questions and by God I am no greatful for their time and futher thoughts on a particular thought from the past :))))
Reply:I've found the personal messages(e-mails) I've received, for the most part, rather rewarding. I'm sure others are intimidated by a few harassing e-mails which will always exist on an open forum.

And of course there are the jerks who are offensive in their questions and remarks who are just avoiding what they deserve. I guess it's the price of a free system.
Reply:i HADIT LIKE THAT WHEN I FIRST GOT ON YAHOO ; AS I DIDN;T WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE MY EMAIL; BUT IT;S NOT A REAL EMAIL IT;S ANSWERS EMAIL/Sometimes some jerk will say he drowned 2 kittens for fun; this did happen last week ' so i wanted to email him and cuss him out good and he had no mail .about HALF OF THE OTHER HALF ARE NOT NICE PEOPLE SO THAT;S WHY THEY DON;T WANT IT AS PEOPLE WOULD GIVE THEM A PIECE OF THEIR MINDS.
Reply:You have a valid point. It's unfortunate though we have to be so cautious. The world we live in dicatates this. Making your profile readily available with all of your personal information including your e-mail open up the possibility you may connect with others on a deeper level. Unfortunately, you also open yourself up to a potetial barage of harrassment and "stalkers". Sad but true.

I have no doubt that the worthwhile, wonderful individuals on here outweigh the bad, but one simply cannot be too careful. And, that at least from standpoint, is why people opt to keep such information confidential. I know that's why I do.
Reply:I think it's smart of them. There are so many fuckedup people out here that you don't want to take any risks. 90% of the emails I am getting is pure garbage.
Reply:who knows. anyone can email me questions about anything.
Reply:cuz we are too busy to deal with all of it or weve been stalked
Reply:Remember, there are bad people on this forum, with some hateful things to say. Keeping careful contact is a reasonable thing to do. I posted a comment on Islam one time and got some pretty threatening things from all over the world.
Reply:This is one of the biggest problems with the Web in general, and sites like this in particular: the anonymity factor. Many people don't allow email because they wish to abuse the privilege of having a public forum, by posting hateful or racist remarks, threatening other posters, or using the site for spam or advertising, all of which are against the Yahoo Q%26amp;A policy. Frankly, I feel that these people are often cowards who would never have the guts to say such hateful things if it was mandatory that their name, phone number, and/or email address were published.

Unfortunately, that anonymity gives some people the idea that they can get away with anything they want, and in some respects it's true.

I've even seen people who won't allow their name or email listings to be published offering death threats to others on line.

If posters had no choice but to put their real names and addresses up there, that would eliminate most, if not all, of the hateful, slanderous, or threatening remarks we see on this forum.
Reply:its like that by default, and people can be contacted through here.
Reply:I think many respect this forum for it's public face of appeal and though many, including myself would like our answer to have full and complete touch, it still remains a safe place. and i have often thought that my chance to express my answer completely has been long gone but that is not the case, there will always be another opportunity through another day of questions to speak again, if not then, it would be an incomplete thought in need of more thought.
Reply:SPAM and too much unsolicted advice.
